All About Me

My name is Leon Turnbull. My closest friends call me Leapin'. We're not sure why. But I don't think it's because I leap around a lot.

I was born and raised in the awesome little town of Rossland, British Columbia. Home to the best ski hill in the world, Red Mountain (I'm only a little biased). Needless to say, I did a lot of skiing when I grew up. I still go back there most every Christmas to ski (and visit my parents). I also played hockey when I was young, as almost all Canadian boys do. But alas, Wayne Gretzky I am not.

So instead of the NHL, after high school I went to the University of Victoria, where I graduated in 1991 with a Bsc. in Computer Science. I spent the next 7 years working in Victoria as a computer programmer/analyst.

In 1998 I met my wife-to-be, Tara, on the internet of all places (on a Christian penpal site). She lived in northern California, and we met for the first time on a ski trip to Lake Tahoe. The rest is history. I proposed to her at the base of Della Falls, on Vancouver Island, the tallest waterfall in Canada. She said yes, and I moved down to California. I got another computer programmer/analyst job, and we now live in northern California. We have a handsome boy, Jadon, and a beautiful girl, Nekoda.

Although I've always liked waterfalls (and really, everything in God's wonderful creation), I first really became interested in waterfalls when Tara and I went to Helmcken Falls in Wells Gray Park in northern British Columbia. The power and magnificence of that waterfall just overwhelmed me. I was completely awestruck at its beauty and stunning force. Since then, it has become an obsession of mine to see more and more waterfalls. And the more I've seen, the more I have appreciated the beauty in all waterfalls. Now I'm just trying to see as many waterfalls as I can, whenever and wherever I can. I decided to put up this webpage to share my experiences, and help others in their own waterfall quests. Happy waterfallin!
