Devils Well, aka Trinity Falls, is one of the most beautiful, sublime, places we have ever visited. Located in Napa county, not known for its waterfalls, this hidden little gem is tucked away back in a remote canyon where few people visit.
During the rainy season, the streams in Napa come to life and this beauty is formed. Devils Well consists of a lovely lower 25 ft. fall, dropping into a deep pool. Above it, the creek cascades through a narrow canyon. You can scramble up the bank and through a narrow slot in the rocks to reach the middle section, with a 30 ft. drop into another small pool. Indescribable is the word we would use for this spot, with views of the canyon and additional cascades streaming down the mountainside. Only glimpses of the upper section are visible, but the entire height of the falls is at least 110 ft.
Now the catch: Although Devils Well is not on the Preserve, access to the waterfall is on this private property, and to come here you need to obtain permission to go on a guided tour to the falls. Contact the Land Trust of Napa County for more information (707-252-3270).
