American Falls, aka Rainbow Falls, at Niagara is about 183 ft. high and is about 1005 ft. wide. The Niagara Falls plunges over the brink of American Falls for about 80-100 ft. before crashing into the immense pile of boulders at its base. These boulders (plus its smaller size) take away from the beauty of the American Falls when compared to Horseshoe Falls, but this waterfall should not be overlooked. Even by itself, it is one of the greatest waterfalls in the world.
The best views of the American Falls are, ironically, on the Canadian side of the border along the Niagara Parkway. On the U.S. side, you can get to the brink of American Falls at Prospect Pt. and also on Luna Island.
