A lot of people drive to Glacier Point, which has some awesome views of Yosemite Valley. It is worth your time, though, to take this short (but not so easy hike) to Illilouette Falls, which not a lot of people go to, since there are so many other wonderful sights to see in Yosemite. It is easy going down, but then you have to come back up, and it could be really hot. When you get there, you will have a spectacular view across a canyon to the waterfall. You are a fair distance from the falls, but it seems so close. It is a great place to have lunch and enjoy the scenery, before you make the long trip back up the trail.
