Lion Wash Falls has been a mystery and a thorn in my side for quite awhile. I have known or suspected there was a waterfall above Lion Slide Falls on Hatchet Creek, but had not been able to find it. It is marked on the USGS topographic maps, but (I found out first hand) it is marked in the wrong location. I figured it must be further upstream, so in Sept. 2007 I tried again. I almost missed it again, as I passed right by it. The waterfall is not visible from the trail. On the way back, however, I heard rushing water from the creek, and went over to the bank to take a look, and there it was. A steep route led down to the creek and the waterfall. Mystery solved! Hallelujah!
