Lower California Falls is one of 3 or 4 unmarked and unnamed waterfalls on the Tuolumne River below California Falls. With so many spectacular waterfalls on this river, I found that I could not and it did not make sense to catalog all of these, but I decided I could catalog this one, which I felt was the biggest of the bunch, 34 ft. high. That is the nature of Yosemite. How do you count 20 and 30 ft. high waterfalls when they are right beside 200 and 300 ft. waterfalls? Anyway, Lower California Falls should not be overlooked just because it is unmarked. It is difficult to describe exactly where this particular one is if you do not have a GPS. If I remember, it was the 3rd or 4th of the small falls you will find past California Falls. The trail makes a slight right turn near the top of the falls, and you will see a path (not really a path, but a way you can get over to it). Although it is slightly off trail, it easy to get out to a good view of it. Be careful on the rock ledge viewpoint, as it may be extremely slippery.
